Clendon Shopping Centre, Auckland

This was an existing neighbourhood centre, constructed on an adhoc basis, dating from the early 1980s. It ended up as a series of buildings joined together by vaulted canopies.

In mid 2005 Finstar purchased the property, along with an adjacent hotel, creating a total site area of four hectares and 10,000m2 of gross leaseable floor area. A substantial upgrade and reconfiguration resulted in the demolition of 1200m2 of retail space, which opened up all the faces of the centre to the streetscape. A further 3000m2 of new buildings were added, providing a re-mixed centre with over 50 tenancies.

The property was sold in 2007 and the new owners engaged Finstar as development managers to oversee the project through to its mid-2008 completion date.
